Nestled in the scenic beauty of Afton lies a hidden gem for beer aficionados and adventure seekers alike. WildManDan Brewery, affectionately known as WMD, isn't just your average brewery – it's a labor of love, born from a serendipitous encounter and fueled by passion for craft beer and exploration.
The Genesis of WildManDan
It all began with a momentous decision during a hike along the Inca Trail in 2012. Dan, already renowned as the son of the fiber optics industry, decided to embark on a new journey: brewing beer. With years of homebrewing experience under his belt and a stint at a German brew school, Dan's dream was no mere flight of fancy.
Meanwhile, Terri, with four decades of hospitality experience, including a tenure as a sous chef at Opryland Hotel, was the perfect partner to complement Dan's brewing prowess. Together, their shared love for travel and culinary exploration set the stage for WildManDan Brewery.
From Napkin Scribbles to Brewmaster's Dream
Their vision crystallized during a chance encounter with a brewing couple in Dusseldorf, Germany. Inspired by their shotgun bar setup and the flavors of the local brews, Dan and Terri began sketching out plans on airplane napkins, laying the groundwork for what would become WildManDan Brewery.
In 2014, they found the perfect spot in Afton, complete with two wells boasting pristine water quality – a brewer's dream come true. And thus, WildManDan Brewery was born, a testament to the power of passion and persistence.
Crafting Flavorful Adventures
At WildManDan Brewery, the brews are more than just beverages – they're a journey through time and taste. Drawing from their extensive repertoire of over a thousand recipes and years of brewing travel, Dan and Terri brew a diverse array of flavors, each inspired by world styles and crafted with meticulous attention to authenticity.
From their award-winning We Are Pivo, a smoked wheat style reminiscent of Slovak and Polish regions, to their Irish Red, which transports drinkers to the Emerald Isle with every sip, every brew at WildManDan Brewery tells a story of exploration and discovery.
A Personalized Experience
Visitors to WildManDan Brewery can expect more than just great beer – they'll receive a warm welcome from the brewers themselves. With 6-8 rotating taps of small-batch brews, Dan and Terri personally pour and share their labor of love with each guest, ensuring a truly unforgettable tasting experience.
And for those looking to extend their stay, WildManDan Brewery offers more than just beer. Their charming 1870 farmhouse, boasting six bedrooms and five baths, is the perfect retreat for groups of beer-loving friends looking to immerse themselves in Afton's brew culture.
A Commitment to Quality and Community
WildManDan Brewery is more than just a destination – it's a hub for beer enthusiasts and homebrewers alike. Through their involvement in the local homebrew club and commitment to education, Dan and Terri are fostering a community of passionate brewers eager to share their craft with the world.
So, whether you're a seasoned beer connoisseur or a curious traveler seeking new adventures, make sure to add WildManDan Brewery to your list of must-visit destinations. After all, every pint tells a story – and at WildManDan Brewery, the adventure never ends.
